snickfic: Darla Deering in her FF suit against Thing background (ff)

New comic:
FF #16 – Fraction/Allred, Allred
This felt really talky, and the main part of the comic was almost solely Scott and Doom, which seemed so weird, since from the very beginning this has been a comic so much about not just the team but the whole extended family, and they were mostly complete absent. I don’t think any of the other FF members even got any lines until the epilogue. And I’m pretty sure I only needed like half that Scott-Doom speechifying anyway.

I did like the epilogue, though, especially when mushed with the epilogue from Fantastic Four #16. Moloids and real actual Scott/Darla and the Jen and awww.

Old comics:
FF #10 – Fraction, Allred
HA, I’d forgotten this was the meta issue. So now I can nominate Matt Fraction as a fictional character, yis? :D Otherwise: cute as always, and now I’ve finally met Maximus the Mad, who I encountered in later issues and couldn’t place. And the tour of microspace was fun (although it maybe would have been nice to had that under my belt when I wrote that Yuletide fic, oh well).

Young Avengers #8 – Gillen, McKelvie
Alternate universes are totally my jam, so I really enjoyed this (and now that one Yuletide fic I read makes so much more sense!). However, I am fairly :\ about Prodigy up and kissing someone he knows is in a steady relationship already. That’s not kosher.

I really liked the issues leading up to the Scott/Doom confrontation but the confrontation itself seemed weird -- talky like you said, and also kind of lecturey about how Doom is a REALLY BAD BAD GUY (when he's used for over-the-top comedy half the time, including from the beginning in the really old-school Fantastic Four by Stan & Jack.) And in the context of him killing Cassie it makes sense but it's sort of out of synch with the rest of the book. I'm wondering if the ending was supposed to be something different but they got told issue 16 would be the last so what got put out there is a little thrown together.

The epilogue is great, though!

may I recommend Doctor Strange & Doctor Doom : Triumph & Torment mini? It's an awesome story and one of the best to figure out Doom (also one of the story who makes the most of him as a tragic character). You can balance that out with the Emperor Doom GN for a more comedic look.

heh, I think this portrayal makes much more sense from a PoV of fandom discussions over the years than as relating to a story. There were a couple of passages where I really felt like the author was directly preaching to the audience for daring to like the character in the wrong way. So in any case, flawed writing, IMHO.
