snickfic: Buffy Dawn weird love is better than no love (Buffy Dawn)
General things I like: psychological horror, existential horror, weird plants, creepy ruins, creepy weird landscapes, body horror, amnesia. Kink negotiation, body appreciation, touching and teasing, xeno kink, women in charge, watersports, enemas, stuffing/belly kink (those last three are my kink trifecta; feel free to consider any of them as prompts for any of these fandoms!). A/B/O, tentacles, wingfic, steampunk vibes, mpreg.

General things I don’t like / DNW: sexual violence or threats thereof; gore for the sake of gore; death of the POV character; trauma to eyes, hands, or teeth. Larger person physically dominating smaller one, comeplay, non-con, D/s-type punishment. Infidelity, first-person POV, crossovers (exceptions noted).

TV fic recs

snickfic: [B5] close-up of G'Kar (G'Kar)
Still working on cleaning out my recs backlog. Here we have recs for TV fic!

Jeeves and the Inferior Valet, or, Thomas and the Kindest Man in England
, by [archiveofourown.org profile] Alex51324 - Jeeves & Wooster/Downton Abbey crossover
Thomas Barrow + Jeeves/Wooster, 13k. Recced to the moon and back already, but I shall rec it again, because it is delightful. Wooster rescues Thomas from an unfortunate situation, but of course it's up to Jeeves to actually bring things to rights, which he does, despite how Thomas's utter ineptitude as a valet pains him. The voices are perfect throughout. I laughed out loud multiple times. Highly recommended.

What Is Dark Within Me, Illuminate by [archiveofourown.org profile] sprocket - Babylon 5
Timov, 2.6k. I've read almost no B5 fic on account of avoiding spoilers, but someone told me that Timov never returned to the show, so I felt comfortable reading this one. It's set mid-episode and gives us Timov's own perspective and state of mind, and I was immediately fascinated by Timov in the episode, so I enjoyed this a lot.

Keep the Bouquets, Throw Away the Grooms by [archiveofourown.org profile] Netgirl_y2k - Game of Thrones
Margaery/Sansa, 2.8k. You guys, it's Margaery/Sansa arranged marriage fic. It is made of sunshine and light and knowingly raised eyebrows. I would read another 40k of it if I could.

Queen in the North by [archiveofourown.org profile] brutti_ma_buoni - Game of Thrones
Sansa/Brienne, 1.6k. The world is burning, Sansa and Brienne are fleeing north, and they find some unexpected solace in each other. Bittersweet and exactly the right length.

Go Wash Your Heart in the River by [archiveofourown.org profile] mardia - Sleepy Hollow
Jenny + Abbie + Crane gen, 13k. A casefic aside in which a woman is murdered and the trio is haunted by crows. This has everything I loved about Sleepy Hollow when I tried to watch it - Crane vs the 20th century, Abbie and Crane's weird but willing relationship, Abbie and Jenny's damaged sibling relationship still in the process of mending, and a gray New England moodiness - and only glancing reference to the stuff I didn't, like the apocalypse plot. Basically if the show were this, I would watch it every week, and as it isn't, I would gladly read tons more fic in this vein. (Recs welcome.) Everyone here feels like a fully-realized person on their own right, with all the complexity that implies, and the Jenny-Abbie part of it in particular gets some lovely nuanced development. Just wonderful.

Fic for me: Attraction by [archiveofourown.org profile] Alley_Skywalker - Downton Abbey, Mary/Lavinia
Someone wrote me Mary/Lavinia!! This pairing was the first femslash OTP of my heart, and lo, now there is fic, just for me. It's from Lavinia's POV and it about her being dazzled by Mary, which a quite understandable reaction, IMO. Yes. :D

Fic by me:
Title: Ain't No Mountain
Fandom: Supernatural
Pairing: Claire/Castiel
Words / Rating: 4600 words / hard R
Content / Warnings: pseudo-incest, dubcon on Castiel's part, underage (Claire is 17), unsafe sex, post-S8
Summary: This time, Castiel's the one sitting still, and Claire's the one blowing into his life with gale force.

A/N: YAY. I haven't been this excited about a fic I've written since Yuletide at least. I've been meaning to write Claire/Castiel for quite a while, and my recip gave me the perfect excuse. It is not perfect, I'm not positive I hit all the notes quite right that I wanted to hit, and I worry that I did not represent the screwedupness of the situation quite sufficiently. But still, I am Quite Pleased. :D
snickfic: (Default)
Title: what lies beneath
Fandom: Downton Abbey
Pairing: Mary/Lavinia
Rating / Words: NC-17 / 1800 words
Warnings: TENTACLES
Spoilers: events go AU a little before the end of S2
Summary: Wine leads to kissing, and kissing leads to tentacle sex and other revelations.

A/N: This is my Porn Battle fic! I am so pleased!! Mostly I am pleased because Mary/Lavinia tentacles CLEARED NEEDED TO EXIST. I used the "any" prompt to write this, which I feel slightly silly about, because I'm the person who submitted all the Mary/Lavinia prompts. You'd think I could have prompted tentacles at the time. But no.

And yeah, I'm pretty tickled by the title I came up with. In case you were wondering.

I haven't paid much attention to the Emmys, because I watch so little current TV. I cannot, for example, comment on the fact that Tatiana Maslany wasn't nominated, because I haven't seen Orphan Black.

However, you have released me from all obligation to take you seriously if you nominate Downton Abbey (DOWNTON ABBEY) for best drama. Just look at this list of nominees: Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Homeland, and DOWNTON ABBEY.

What.
snickfic: (Yuletide)
A merry Christmas and joyful holiday season (or midwinter vacation) to all on my flist!

The Yuletide archive is open, and I've spent part of my morning reading delicious things. Ideally I will read a bunch more and make more recs before authors are revealed next week, but it's going to be a busy next few days for me, and I wanted to make sure to get these recs in.

recs for Downton Abbey, Revenge, and Sunshine (by Robin McKinley) )

Also, I did indeed finish a treatfic. I highly doubt anyone will ferret it out from among the 2700 other fics, but if you do guess, there's a ficlet in it for you. :)
snickfic: (Downton Abbey)
I had posted this bit of a rant somewhere else and decided I wanted to save it in a place I could remember it. It's regarding the events of Downton Abbey 3.05, and was written in response to the allegation that those events were all Robert's fault.

references to 3.05 )
snickfic: (Downton Abbey)
Title: Nativity
Fandom: Downton Abbey
Characters / Pairings: Thomas, Sybil, background Sybil/Branson
Words / Rating: 1700 words / PG
Spoilers: Through the Christmas special. The fic is inspired by certain S3 events, but it cheerfully disregards all S3 canon.
Warnings: shameless fix-it fic; zero research of the contemporary Irish political/economic climate, which I've bent to my own purposes
Summary: Thomas follows Sybil and Branson to Ireland to try his entrepreneurial hand again and perhaps stir up a little political trouble while he's at it. Which is how he comes to be on the run with pregnant Sybil Branson and the only person on hand when she goes into labor. Lucky him.

A/N: I'll say this for a certain episode of S3: it stirred up all these Sybil/Thomas friendship feelings I didn't even know I had. This is the result. I'm fairly sure I have Downton Abbey fic ideas that don't involve babies, but none of those seem to get written. Oh, well.

It’s a shut-up flat they find themselves in, only two streets over from the Bransons’ own. )

I appear to be writing Sybil+Thomas fix-it fic. WHAT EVEN IS THIS.

BRAIN: Here, I shall helpfully choreograph Downton Abbey threesome make-out scenes in your dreams.
ME: Um, thanks?

It was Mary/Matthew/Lavinia, of course.

Also I just finished 3.03. (Very light spoilers.) )
snickfic: (Downton Abbey)
Is anyone even still watching this show? I don't remember seeing anyone else posting about it.

spoilers, obvs )

Tell me you want to play and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. Then update your journal and answer the following questions:

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

Title: Rather Less Yielding Than a Dream
Fandom: Downton Abbey
Pairing / Characters: Mary, Matthew/Lavinia (can easily be read as Matthew/Mary/Lavinia if one is so inclined)
Words / Rating: 6700 words / PG
Spoilers: Through 2.06 and goes utterly AU after that.
Warnings: Mpreg. Stealth crossover.
Summary: In which Matthew turns up pregnant, Lavinia is his wife, and Mary is the glue that holds everything together.

A/N: Written to [livejournal.com profile] penny_lane_42’s prompt for the Het Mpreg Ficathon and Brit-picked by the marvelous [livejournal.com profile] brutti_ma_buoni. Any remaining mistakes are mine, all mine!

Y’all, I am ridiculous. I never meant to write Downton Abbey fic at all, but since I did write this I ended up wanting to write ALL MY FEELINGS about the show, which of course means that the story in which Matthew gets knocked up is mostly about Mary and Lavinia.

Why can I not write all these serious thoughts in a serious story, instead of one founded on crack? /o\

'I'm not pregnant.” Lavinia stumbled over the last word. 'I’m not. Matthew is.' )
snickfic: Sam Dean pilot (SD in the beginning)
1. Generally I don't pay much attention to Fandom March Madness, but it turns out I care when my beloved Lady Mary is involved. So go, help Mary beat John Watson.

2. You know what would be a nifty feature on AO3? If there was a tally of the total number of words of fic you'd posted - overall, or in a given fandom. I'd be really curious to see my numbers.

3. [livejournal.com profile] morrezela wrote me adorable Jared/Gen parking ticket fic for the commentfic meme over at [livejournal.com profile] spn_rpf_het. I am writing have promised to write Jo-Castiel wingfic, but there's about a half-dozen other yummy prompts that I'd love to write if I had the time. So you should go write them. Because the world remains incomplete until someone writes cursed!princess!Jared.
snickfic: Jo and Ellen Harvelle (Harvelles)
Dear Author, I am so excited you're going to write me something yummy for the women in one of my beloved fandoms! If you've been matched with me, then I already know you have excellent taste, and this bodes well. :)

A Scandal in Fandom: Steven Moffat, Irene Adler, and the Fannish Gaze, by [livejournal.com profile] jblum. I don't have a stake in the Irene Adler debate - I liked the episode and would be happy to leave it at that, this time around - but the author here has some points that I like. (Via [personal profile] selenak. )

In which Downton Abbey is not at all like Jane Austen, by [personal profile] talibusorabat. What it says on the tin. I found this while looking at Dear Yuletide letters, and kept forgetting to post it.
snickfic: (Downton Abbey)
So, one of these reviews was written after thought and deliberation - in paragraphs, even - and then other one... clearly wasn't.

Before that, though, a general thought: there are so many good female characters on this show, and they run the full spectrum. They outshine the male characters on every level, IMO. I can name at least six female characters off the top of my head that I care about and enjoy more than any of the male characters.

This was borne out by Yuletide: of the non-canonical ships, all but one of them that I noticed was femslash. Not that I watch these things all that carefully, but I never see that happening. And the female-centric gen was bountiful as well.

'Tis the season for Yuletide recs! I missed last year because of busyness, but I've been finding some truly delicious stuff this year.

I fiddled with some most of the categories to avoid repeats and reflect the fact that I mostly watch shows that are already finished.

Which TV shows did you start watching in 2011 and watch all the way through?

Supernatural, Downton Abbey, Sherlock. I think that's it.

Which TV shows did you start watching in 2011 and didn't finish, but still mean to?

Avatar: The Last Airbender, Battlestar Galactica, Farscape, Twin Peaks, The Vampire Diaries.

Which TV shows did you try in 2011 and gave up on?

Ringer? I dunno, that one's still up in the air. I might get back to it. Also Sliders (I watched the mpreg episode), ST: Enterprise (ditto). Dr. Who. (I may still try DW again, but guys, is hard. I can't seem to find my way into this show. It and me are unmixy things, apparently.) The X-Files.

What other shows did you watch this year?

The West Wing (still planning to finish), So You Think You Can Dance (yay!), ST:TOS (I just dabbled, but want to get back to it).

Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2012?

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Babylon 5, Dexter, ST:TOS. Possibly Misfits, The Walking Dead, Mad Men? Really, though, these are all "sometime in the future" shows; they don't necessarily have to happen next year.

Which TV shows do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?

Supernatural. Given everything I have already gone through with this show, it's pretty clear I'm in it until the bitter end, now.
snickfic: (Downton Abbey)
I am happy to report that Downton Abbey remains as gloriously excellent as ever.

more thoughts )
snickfic: (Downton Abbey)
I need to quit investing so heavily in Lady Mary. It's stressful, and anyway she isn't at all pleasant a person.

In other news, Maggie Smith's wardrobe in this show is fabulous. Most of the ladies' clothes are very nice, but hers suit her so perfectly and she wears them so well.
snickfic: (Buffy close)
* LADY GRANTHAM. I loved her from her very first scene

* Mrs. Hughes (remember, I've just finished the third episode)

* Mrs. Crawley (Harriet Jones, right? I loved Harriet Jones!)

* Maggie Smith, of course, always.

* Bates

* Lady Mary, because even though she's rather an idiot there are signs of potential growth and because I have the hugest girlcrush on Michelle Dockery from when she was on Hogfather.

* Anna, because she's so kind and efficient and pretty (sometimes I'm shallow, okay?)

* Carson, because he's everyone's grandfather

* Thomas, because he's a scheming, conniving jackass

* The credits music

* All the acting, basically, because everyone is superb

* The writing, which is also superb

* The huge ensemble cast with all the interwoven relationships. Watching Gosford Park earlier this week was the perfect appetizer for this show (although that was, on the whole, soapier than this has been so far).
snickfic: (Cordelia excited)
Downton Abbey is exactly as gloriously perfect as everyone said it was.

That is all.
