TV and me

For a while now I've been casting about for a new show to care about. See the list:

* I've pretty much given up on Farscape, even as background noise; I'm just so horribly bored. (I got as far as 1.17, Through the Looking Glass.)

* I have a list of must-see Damon/Elena TVD eps (courtesy [livejournal.com profile] ever_neutral and [livejournal.com profile] upupa_epops), but I haven't gotten to it yet.

* For Reasons, I tried Teen Wolf, about a high school kid who gets bitten and has to deal. I found the protagonist cute but dull and the angsty Angel 2.0 adult werewolf exceedingly broody, but protagonist's BFF, Stiles, is pretty much the most adorable thing EVAR. I want to cuddle him for always. If I pick up the show again, it will be solely for him.

* I watched the pilot of Wildfire - ABC Family show about a girl fresh out of juvie working on a horse racing farm - solely for the purpose of looking at Genevieve Cortese's face. Apparently I am a fangirl now. I wanted the protag's two would-be suitors to both die in a fire, but mostly I enjoyed everyone else. The writing was flabby, though. Does anyone know if it gets better? I assume not, since I didn't know the show existed until Netflix recommended it to me, but if people told me it was watchable I might try it again.

All of this is prelude to: I started Mad Men, and you guys, I'm pretty sure I'm sticking with this one. YOU GUYS. I'll have more to say soon.

Here's a thing that drives me crazy about Farscape: an ep is 50 minutes long, but they only have 45 minutes of material, max. The remaining 5+ minutes is composed of meaningful staring. The show is in desperate need of some stricter time constraints.

Also, I'm watching Durka Returns right now (1.15), and it's like everyone is stoned, including the camera. The Nebari, Durka, and even John speak at 75% normal speed, and there's all this slow motion camera work that serves no purpose I can see.

On the plus side, I guess, I've now met Chiana. Uh, I like her costuming? (Zhaan also has stellar make-up, BTW.) However, the way she's always cocking her head reminds me of Veruca on BtVS when she sings. It's weird and distracting, in other words.

I fiddled with some most of the categories to avoid repeats and reflect the fact that I mostly watch shows that are already finished.

Which TV shows did you start watching in 2011 and watch all the way through?

Supernatural, Downton Abbey, Sherlock. I think that's it.

Which TV shows did you start watching in 2011 and didn't finish, but still mean to?

Avatar: The Last Airbender, Battlestar Galactica, Farscape, Twin Peaks, The Vampire Diaries.

Which TV shows did you try in 2011 and gave up on?

Ringer? I dunno, that one's still up in the air. I might get back to it. Also Sliders (I watched the mpreg episode), ST: Enterprise (ditto). Dr. Who. (I may still try DW again, but guys, is hard. I can't seem to find my way into this show. It and me are unmixy things, apparently.) The X-Files.

What other shows did you watch this year?

The West Wing (still planning to finish), So You Think You Can Dance (yay!), ST:TOS (I just dabbled, but want to get back to it).

Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2012?

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Babylon 5, Dexter, ST:TOS. Possibly Misfits, The Walking Dead, Mad Men? Really, though, these are all "sometime in the future" shows; they don't necessarily have to happen next year.

Which TV shows do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?

Supernatural. Given everything I have already gone through with this show, it's pretty clear I'm in it until the bitter end, now.
