snickfic: (Buffy laugh)
Generally, I dislike sitcoms. I dislike the characters, I find the scenarios silly and OTT, I can rarely watch an ep all the way through without collapsing of embarrassment squick, and the off-color humor isn't so much "adult" as juvenile. Oh, and I HATE the laugh track. Hate. Even sitcoms recommended by people whose taste I trust, I can't deal with. (Examples: the roommates love The Big Bang Theory; you all adore Community, HIMYM, and Parks and Rec. All struck out with me. Although, FWIW, I hated what I saw of those last two slightly less than I usually hate these things.)

But now, lo! I have now watched the entire run of The IT Crowd, a British sitcom about two geeks working in IT and the computer-illiterate woman put in charge of them, and I liked it! I... can't really say why this worked for me when so many others haven't. The British factor may be part of it? Everything's more respectable in an English accent. Also, despite some sniping, these people actually seem to like each other - although more in the way of family who're stuck together than friends who are together by choice. It also helps that I adored Moss from the get-go and warmed up to Roy and Jen before too long. Likability is very important!

(I liked the show so much, in fact, that I'm thinking about asking for it for Yuletide, assuming I do Yuletide this year. I thought I was skipping because I've already done lots of exchanges this year, but I actually have things to request - The IT Crowd, Coffee Prince, and Disney's cartoon Robin Hood.)

Well, you say, that's just one sitcom. Yes, but I also just watched and enjoyed Matthew Perry's new show Go On. (This even though I avoid Perry on principle on account of disliking his face.) He's a radio DJ unwillingly in group therapy after his wife's death, which did not sound like a winning start to me, but there were several legitimately funny bits, and our protagonist seems to be not entirely a jerk.

TV and me

For a while now I've been casting about for a new show to care about. See the list:

* I've pretty much given up on Farscape, even as background noise; I'm just so horribly bored. (I got as far as 1.17, Through the Looking Glass.)

* I have a list of must-see Damon/Elena TVD eps (courtesy [livejournal.com profile] ever_neutral and [livejournal.com profile] upupa_epops), but I haven't gotten to it yet.

* For Reasons, I tried Teen Wolf, about a high school kid who gets bitten and has to deal. I found the protagonist cute but dull and the angsty Angel 2.0 adult werewolf exceedingly broody, but protagonist's BFF, Stiles, is pretty much the most adorable thing EVAR. I want to cuddle him for always. If I pick up the show again, it will be solely for him.

* I watched the pilot of Wildfire - ABC Family show about a girl fresh out of juvie working on a horse racing farm - solely for the purpose of looking at Genevieve Cortese's face. Apparently I am a fangirl now. I wanted the protag's two would-be suitors to both die in a fire, but mostly I enjoyed everyone else. The writing was flabby, though. Does anyone know if it gets better? I assume not, since I didn't know the show existed until Netflix recommended it to me, but if people told me it was watchable I might try it again.

All of this is prelude to: I started Mad Men, and you guys, I'm pretty sure I'm sticking with this one. YOU GUYS. I'll have more to say soon.
snickfic: (Dean really)
1. Yummy meta by [livejournal.com profile] amonitrate about Dean's grab for "normal life" in S6. This is the same fan who wrote the "class representation in SPN" meta that I liked so much, and I really like what she says here RE Dean and Lisa and Dean's reasons for his actions there.

2. Sky of a Tree Called Life, by [archiveofourown.org profile] RaceUlfson. Fullmetal Alchemist post-series WIP focusing on Roy Mustang and the Elric brothers, although it looks to include cameos from practically everyone. No pairing listed, as of now. It's mpreg, which is how I found it, but mpreg is the plot, not the point. It's what I guess I'd call a full-bodied fic: it has tons of character moments and banter and worldbuilding details large and small. It has everything, and do you know how rare that is to find in a fic?
snickfic: Buffy Dawn weird love is better than no love (Buffy Dawn sister love)
Y'all know that by the time I'd finished Seraph I was pining for good mpreg as written by other people. In the couple of years since, a number of people have written me lovely examples of it. Aw. Y'all make me feel loved. *smish*

Anyway, I thought it was high time I made a masterlist of sorts, and here 'tis.

Edit: As of 2/21/12, I'm still updating this for, ah, any new mpreg my friends write. Mostly because [personal profile] verity keeps writing random mpreg thingies and blaming me for them, which I am not complaining about at all.

Happy lovely mpreg fics this way )

I haven't forgotten anyone, have I? Please tell me if I have!
