I tried the first ep of Daredevil today, and it was very dull. I knew to expect violence, but I didn't expect to be bored! I didn't care about the organized crime or the vigilante justice at all. All I wanted was Matt and Foggy defending innocent clients with gentle snark and mad detecting skills.

IDK, I'm just in this for the ladies that are supposedly showing up.

My opinion was that the characters are very good and the plot is very bad. Which in some ways is the ideal set up for fic. Now that I think about it, I think I've enjoyed Daredevil fic more than I've enjoyed the actual show. The best moments of the show for me are scenes where the characters are just hanging out and talking and moving the plot along very little.

Sure, but by then they're calling it "Jessica Jones" and we're focusing on somebody else.

Pretty much. And the plot doesn't make sense either in this universe or the Marvel movie universe to which it's supposed to be connected. In this universe, Manhattan is just not that crime-ridden. In that universe, are we really supposed to believe that the movie heroes are just ignoring all the nonsense going on right beneath their headquarters?

watch the first couple eps to get the idea, then watch 'Nelson vs. Murdock,' then read all the fic.

I think it's definitely worth hanging in there for Karen Paige and Claire Temple. On the villain side there's also a terrific female character (plus Vanessa is great) but I don't know what episode she first shows up. I liked Foggy some of the time, too. But Matt is (most of the time) at his absolute most difficult to deal with - certainly in character from the comics, but very much in one of his downswings. Even more so in S2.

But the fic is really good for this fandom.

The show lost me about when I realized it didn't make sense that, for it being a relatively "grounded" show, that Fisk didn't just buy politicians and make them implement the policies he wanted to effect his desired changes to the city.

No worries. And yeah - it seems like a missed chance to really explore the central thesis of "systematic oppression can't be fought by superpowers alone" that the Netflix shows are going for. Or should be, really.
