snickfic: (Faith)
I've seen a meme going around where you talk about your five most and least kudosed fics. My most kudosed are all hockey fic, all fairly recent, and I've talked about them a lot, so I'm saving those for another day. Instead, here are my least-kudosed, with the restriction that I only looked at stuff more than 150 words long. No proper drabbles here!

In ascending order by kudos
Better When Aged - I seem to have written Darla/Rupert Giles! I'd forgotten all about it. Apparently it was for [personal profile] bruttimabuoni, which suggests it might have been that one year I did Christmas drabbles? Anyway, it's set during the pilot and is awfully fun - I wouldn't mind seeing more of those two together.

A Wyndam-Pryce Tradition. So once upon a time an enterprising soul tried to start a Buffyverse kinkmeme. The problem was that nobody in Buffy fandom had any idea how kinkmemes worked. For example, someone prompted "Wesley Wyndam-Pryce, solo" and I wrote a fic about Wes on his first vampire hunt. (I'm also not sure most of us were self-aware enough to know what kinks where, although it's possible I'm projecting a lot there.) It's... fine? This might be the only time I have ever written Wes, come to think of it.

Abandon Hope (the Mary Quite Contrary mix). This is the one and only remix I've ever written, and it was like PULLING. TEETH. Hence why I have never written another. But if you fancy a character study of Drusilla, trippy dark queen of my heart, via drabbles, this fic is here for you. I think it turned out rather well, considering how torturous it was to write. The drabble about Dawn is my favorite. I also like the soul/wineskin parallels. One of the reasons I always enjoyed writing Dru was how I could use Christian language and metaphors with her.

Two Suckers in an Icebox - the only abandoned WIP I have in namespace. It's Faith/Giles in a post-apocalyptic world that I also wrote about in Oz, After the Apocalypse, and I could never figure out where it needed to go, alas.

Lacking. This is actually my FIRST EVER Buffy fic which I wrote almost immediately after seeing 5.07 Fool for Love. Quite frankly it's the kind of plotless meandering thing people mean when they say they don't like character studies, but I was tickled to rediscover it anyway, because: first fic. :')

Bonus: a sonnet by Spike, circa S6, which doesn't technically have enough words to appear but otherwise qualifies. I am to this day, eight years later, super freaking proud of this sonnet.

Meme nabbed from [personal profile] makioka in a post she made approximately five million years ago.
You know that meme that goes around sometimes where you post your five favorite kinks and then five favorite couples, and it's like a wish into the universe to see if anybody will write it for you? Let's make it a little more interactive.

Comment here if you want to play, and I will give you 3-6 couples or characters that I associate with you, and you make an entry in your journal talking about those couples/characters and fics that you wish the universe would write for you.

Nabbed from many people.

1. Your 3 fanworks with the most AO3 comment threads: Make Yourself at Home (Hockey RPF, Sid/Geno, bowerbird AU), my new most popular fic ever. Three Christmases with Miss Honey (Matilda, Matilda + Miss Hockey), a moderate hit for YT one year that I thought might be my most popular fic until the end of time. Switch Hitter (Hockey RPF, girl!Sid/Geno, D/s AU).

2. Your 3 fanworks with the most kudos: Base Notes (Hockey RPF, Sid/Geno, a/b/o) – my first hockey fic! Make Yourself at Home, again. And finally And in Health (Hockey RPF, Sid/Geno). This fandom has spoiled me for kudos, basically.

3. Your oldest fanwork: A Right Sorry Couple of Vamps (BtVS/Ats, Spike+Darla), written for the Fall Fandom Free-for-All back in 2008.

4. Your latest fanwork: three's a crowd (SPN, Tamara+Sam), a weird, atmospheric little futurefic for [ profile] spn_j2_xmas.

5. Fanwork you are proudest of: ONE fanwork?? How about I just pick one that comes to mind: worn for sleeping (SPN, Jess/Sam), which is moody and creepy and has a twist and says stuff about canon, all in 1100 words. Still super pleased with how that one turned out.

6. Your longest fanwork: Still Seraph (BtVS, Spike+ensemble, mpreg), a 67k fic I finished in 2009. Have never even come close since. But I've got a WIP that might bump up close to it if I can ever finish. /o\

7. Your 3 fanworks with the most bookmarks: Base Notes, Make Yourself at Home, Switch Hitter. Hockey fandom does it again.

8. Your top 3 crossover works: I have no idea how we're measuring this. I write very few crossovers anyway, but here are three I'm fond of: This is the World We Made (BtVS/Dollhouse, Dawn+Topher), the first fic I've managed to write that really gets at how I feel about how freaking badass Dawn Summers would grow up to be. The Very Small Girl and the Monster (BtVS/Firefly, River+Spike), far-future fic for BtVS in which River meets someone who can finally explain who she is. Lift (Firefly/Matilda, River+Matilda), another River-centric crossover that gets a lot of mileage out of her dreams. Probably the crackiest crossover I've ever attempted, in terms of canons crossed.

9. Your favorite characters to portray: I'm going to assume this means "favorite characters to write, in which case Dawn Summers, Illyria, Jo Harvelle, Genevieve Cortese, Geno.
snickfic: (SD church)
You can sort all (?) the SPN characters that have appeared in at least two episodes here.

Some of these were super hard decisions (Jo vs Ellen? Jo vs Amelia???), but it shook out into something I'm pretty happy with, in about three tiers: top third are the characters I love, middle third are characters I have no or conflicting feelings towards, bottom third are characters that make me say "ugh", plus all the S9-S10 characters I haven't seen.

On the whole, I definitely favored earlier over later, other things being more or less equal. The two things I learned during sorting is that I have a whole lot more antipathy towards Ben Braeden than I would have guessed - me kicking against the convenient cute kid thing, presumably - and a whole lot more appreciation for Gwen Campbell. Clearly this means I should write some Gwen Campbell fic? :D

Also, Dean's place on the list is Dean circa S8 (when I stopped). If I could compartmentalize him and just think about Dean S1-7 or so, he'd have placed very differently.

Now I'm come over all nostalgic. *sniff*

I currently have 158 works archived at Ao3. Pick a number from 1 (the most recent) to 161 (the first thing I posted there), and I'll tell you three things I currently like about it.

Okay, y'all. I can't commit to posting every day in December, because holidays, but I posting every day from now to December 16 seems a more manageable goal. So! I would be interested in topics people might be interested in hearing from me about.

I will probably also nab topic ideas from the talking meme I attempted to do in January and then promptly failed at after two days, if you want to see what other people have requested in the past or put in a second vote for them. I'm not going to schedule things, though, because I think that way lies failure.

Meme snagged from Tumblr:
In a text post, list ten FICS that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” works, or even all the same pairing or fandom, just the fics that have touched you or that stuck with you somehow. Tag ten friends, including me, so I’ll see your list. Make sure you let your friends know you’ve tagged them!

This somehow ended up being a sort of “Long IMPORTANT Fics” list, except when it’s instead a “Long RIDICULOUSLY IDDY Fics” list. I think if I want to make a list that has any one-shots in it at all, I’m going to have to make it an all-one-shots list to begin with. Sigh.

Should note that these are not all unqualified recs, just stuff that has stuck with me. Also, I totally broke that “don’t take but a few minutes” rule.

  • Red - SPN, gen, broke my brain and put it back together and completely reshaped my idea of what fanfiction could be.

  • Let Not the Sun Go Down - SPN RPF, werecats and mpreg and body identity stuff. My id, let me show you it.

  • Res Gestae - SPN, Wincest, plotty sex swap with pregnancy. I read this fic before I even saw the show because it promised me mpreg. Something about the angst and circumstances have always stuck with me, especially since I AM DUMB and did not see the twist coming.

  • Crow on the Cradle - SPN, nominally Sam/Jess but mostly Jess gen in which Sam goes missing pre-pilot and Jess ends up tagging along with the Winchesters to look for him. This is kroki_refur, possibly my single favorite SPN author, and this is I think the very first fic of hers I read and one that ruined me for all later Jess fic. It’s haunting and dark and heartbreaking and LONG and so, so good.

  • Love’s The Burning Girl - Trek RPF, Zoe Saldana gets tired of the acting life and goes into directing. I find Zoe’s journey of self-discovery and following her ambitions just so hopeful.

  • Lunch and Other Obscenities - Star Trek Reboot, Uhura and her roommate Gaila make some cultural accommodations. Girl friendship yay, but also it does something more successfully than any pro SFF I’ve read ever has: shows what it might actually be like in a society where all the taboos are centered on something other than sex. (IDK how Zoe Saldana features twice on this list; I was never even in Star Trek Reboot fandom.)

  • Daemons Luminati - BtVS, S6 AU in which Spike gets raped by angels?? I’ve read this fic multiple times and was never quite sure exactly what I was reading, and I honestly have even less an idea now as time has gone on and I’ve gotten some more perspective on it, but it’s nonetheless IMO one of the true classics of Buffy fandom.

  • Kindred Spirits - BtVS, the Dawn/Ethan fic so good that everyone apparently decided there didn’t need to be any more. Also the best exploration of Dawn herself and of the implications of the Key that I have ever seen. Honestly half of this list could be nwhepcat; she was a formative fannish influence for me.

  • Fastening Your One Heart to Every Falling Thing - hockey RPF, the soulbonding fic with no soulbonding in it. Also the reason I am in hockey fandom and, by extension I guess, everyone I’ve dragged into it with me.

  • Never Hard to Find - hockey RPF, Sid/Geno. I originally saw this recced as The One With the Ficus Plant, and by gum they were not wrong. This is also a story about two people being reeeally bad at communicating with each other and themselves in a way that doesn’t drive me crazy. But mostly: ficus.

Not listed: the rapey dystopian J2 mpreg fic that was the final nudge that got me to start watching SPN back in 2011. I am never admitting to that one in public.
snickfic: [A+X] Fantomex shooting across the snow (Fantomex)
[ profile] rahirah asked me a question that I thought merited its own post, because it's a question that I'm always interested in seeing other people answer, too: What attracts you to fandoms where you write fic, as opposed to fandoms where you may just read/watch?

I used to think there was some complicated and mysterious alchemy that determined what my next fandom would be, but in fact it seems to boil down to two things:

1. A character I obsess over. This character has so far always been male, which might surprise some of you given my enthusiasm the last few years for female characters. Historically, though, my pattern is: fall in love with male character, get into fandom, eventually switch allegiances primarily to female characters. (Who knows what this bodes in terms of hockey fandom.)

Now, why some male characters do this for me and not others is mysterious; there are some similarities that can be drawn between Spike and Dean Winchester, but my most recent obsession is character/RL person Evgeni Malkin, who has basically no similarities with either of the other two.

2. Lots of fic already existing about said character. It turns out that I can love a character to bits and pieces, but if there isn't tons of fic to feed my interest, it withers and dies. And what's more, I need all that fic to play off of when I start writing my own, which is what rahirah really asked. Writing fic for a small/non-existent fandom is hard work, as far as I'm concerned - much harder than writing for a larger fandom. I'm not great at inventing the wheel; I will never be one of those authors on the forefront of a new fandom, blazing the trail. I need a fandom to be in conversation with.

Now, the exception to all this for me is Marvel comics.

cut for long description of the shape of Marvel canon and fandom )

Having given you all that background, Marvel comics really does not look like the fandom for me, does it? Current fannish communities and fic are clustered largely around a handful of titles I'm not fannishly invested in, and the only male character I care all that much about, Fantomex, has like five fics on AO3.

And yet, like I said, Marvel comics are the exception to all my fannish patterns, because I've loved the female characters right from the start and because I continue to love the canon so much that I keep offering various pieces of it in exchanges and trying my hand at it. I'm pretty sure Marvel comics is never going to be my main fic fandom, because there just isn't enough concentrated community and fic. (This means when I write fic, there aren't a ton of people interested, either.) But apparently I'm going to keep plugging away nonetheless.

Now that I've said all that: What does it take for a canon to move you to writing fic/making art/getting fannishly creative? What are the secret ingredients?

Reposted from Tumblr.

Rules: In a text post, list ten books that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you.

This list is going to largely consist of "Books I read at an impressionable age that have had lasting effects on my mental landscape." All aboard the nostalgia train!

  1. The Little White Horse - Elizabeth Gouge (because hares are more noble than rabbits)

  2. The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm - Nancy Farmer (between this and House of the Scorpion, Farmer is one of the weirdest and most underappreciated YA authors of the 90s)

  3. The Secret Garden - Frances Hodgson Burnett (one of my single most favorite books ever ever ever)

  4. Anne of the Island - L.M. Montgomery (or really everything by Montgomery, but Anne's games of imagination with Davy particularly resonated)

  5. The Wind in the Door - Madeleine L'Engle (I was so disappointed to find out what mitochondria were actually like. So disappointed)

  6. The Harper Hall Trilogy - Anne McCaffrey (FORMATIVE. INFLUENCE.)

  7. My Side of the Mountain - Jean Craighead George (wilderness survival narratives - never over them)

  8. The Goats - Brock Cole (such an odd man out on this list - boy and girl on the cusp of puberty get bullied at summer camp and run away together for several days, stealing food and hiding out and bedsharing - but it's stuck with me all this time after only that one read)

  9. The Alfred Hitchcock series of children's horror anthologies (so much weird there for a young mind just starving for weird)

  10. Weirdos of the Universe Unite - Pamela Sargent (where I was introduced to several mythological / folklore figures, for one thing, like Baba Yaga and the Horned King. A profoundly weird and silly book.)

The main themes here seem to be: female authors, SFF in some way. Shocking, I know. From when I could read, the weird was always what I wanted.

Other key influences that didn't make this list: Dr. Seuss (again, as weird as possible: On Beyond Z, Oh the Places You'll Go...), Chris Van Allsburg, Bruce Coville because I couldn't choose just one, Alexander Key with some inescapably 60s-flavored children's fantasy alongside his relatively respectable Escape to Witch Mountain, The Girl with the Silver Eyes by Willo Davis Roberts, and on and on.

3. favorite POV (first/second/third/etc)
4. what are some themes you love writing about?
5. what inspires you to write?
6. thoughts on critique
7. create a character on the spot…. NOW!
8. is there a character you love writing for the most? the least? why?
9. a passage from a WIP
10. what are your strengths wrt writing?
11. what are your weaknesses wrt writing?
12. what’s your favorite place for writing resources?
13. who are your favorite writers?
14. anything else that you want to know XD

Let's have a conversation day. What's the most recent fanwork you've enjoyed? Any fandom.
snickfic: (Default)
[ profile] capitu is doing a self pimping rec list thingy, and following in [personal profile] lettered's footsteps I thought I'd repost my answers here. Disclaimer: For some of my fandoms I wasn't real sure how to measure popularity, and for all of them I kinda picked my favorite out of a hat. Tomorrow my favorites would probably be different.

Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Most Popular: Seraph - 70k of Spike-centric mpreg genfic. With lots of Spike-Dawn friendship. Yes.
Warnings: mpreg, violence and violence-related trauma from a teen's POV
Personal Favourite: It's hard to say, but maybe the untitled S6-era Spike/Buffy sonnet. S6 Spuffy is tricky to write, but this expressed my feelings about the relationship pretty well, I feel. Plus poetry! I haven't written much poetry in a long, long time, but this one I am still quite pleased with.
Warnings: destructive relationship dynamics, sexualized violence - so, regular S6 Spuffy, basically

Fandom: SPN
Most Popular: What Should Really, Really Never Be, a French Mistake AU in which the SPN 'verse is normal but the French Mistake 'verse is alpha/beta/omega.
Pairing (s): All of them? :D Ships temporary, off-screen, and/or implied are Sam/Ruby, Sam/Gen, Dean/Misha, Jensen/Misha, and Jared/Gen
Warnings: a/b/o, mpreg, utter crack
Personal Favourite: I am exceedingly fond of Too Hot, Too Cold, Just Right, which is Jo/Sam a/b/o with heat sex and feelings, although those two things aren't really related. I really like this verse for how dark a direction it takes the a/b/o thing, and here in particular I think I was able to de-romanticize a lot of usual a/b/o tropes while writing an ultimately romantic fic.
Warnings: knotting, a/b/o, mentions of prior sexual trauma and sexual harrassment

Fandom: SPN RPF
Most Popular: Thermodynamics and the Modern Male - HS a/b/o AU where Jared goes into heat for the first time and has trouble adjusting
Pairing (s): Jared-Jensen friendship
Warnings: a/b/o, references to knotting and mpreg, masturbation, sex talk ranging from clinical to juvenile, crude and insensitive language, sexual harassment, bullying, extended discussion of intersex genitalia
Personal Favourite: Long Way Home - post-apocalyptic road trip AU with first-time threesomeness. This has tons of cuddle porn and hits my id in so many different ways, and it feels to me like it flows really naturally. It's a toss-up between this and the werebear 'verse which SPN RPF of mine I reread the most.
Pairing (s): Jared/Jensen/Genevieve
Warnings: lots and lots of off-screen character death

So now you should all do the meme, too, either there or here or in your own journal. Yes. :D
snickfic: (Dean has a hat)
Pick a fic of mine and a question and I'll tell you:

1. What part was most difficult?
2. What are you most proud of?
3. What's a reference you made no one has picked up on yet?
4. What's a bit that sums up your take on a character?
5. Favorite line(s) of dialogue?
6. Favorite lines(s) of prose?
7. Were there any points where you were trying to do something specific with sound, vocabulary, or rhythm?
8. How many drafts did the work go through?
9. Were you listening to anything while writing the fic? If so, what? I have severe ADD and cannot focus with music playing, so the answer to this one is always no.
10. Imagery that is important to the fic, either while composing or in the fic itself?
11. What were you most worried about during the composition?
12. How do you want readers to react to this fic?
13. What did you want them to take away from it?
14. What inspired this fic?
15. If you used a beta, what did you agree or disagree on?
16. Did anything surprise you during the writing?
17. Were any parts written under the influence? I don't really drink? Like, I have shot glass of wine sometimes, if there's wine open. You're welcome to ask about me being under the influence of other things, though. :D

Or, you know, three other things, if there's some other aspect of the story in question that you'd like to know about.
snickfic: Buffy Dawn weird love is better than no love (Buffy Dawn sister love)
[personal profile] lettered recently talked about under-loved fic/art - fic or art that maybe got some attention or maybe didn't, but either way didn't get as much attention as the creator thought they deserved. In the comments, she and I had the following conversation:

SNICK: I have this abiding conviction that my fic couldn't possibly be "worth" as much as stuff that lots of people read and comment on.

LETTERED: I think a lot of us feel that way. Almost everything I wrote last year was gen, and while it got a lot of appreciation, it didn't get nearly the response shippy fic in the same fandom is getting. And I'm afraid that's the reason I'm in such a slump right now. Which is ridiculous, but I'm having trouble getting over it.

This makes me horribly sad, because a number of my Very Most Favoritest Authors also suffer from chronic under-appreciation, IMO, apparently due to being just a little bit too far out of the fannish zeitgeist. The fandom would be much the poorer without them; I can only be grateful that even without getting the love I consider their due, they keep plugging along, telling the stories I want so much to read.

All of which is wordy prelude to me nabbing [personal profile] lettered's meme (loosely paraphrased): Link me to a fic/art/whatever that you're proud of, tell me why it's awesome, and feel free to gripe a little about why you think it didn't get more attention. And/or, do the same for some piece of fic/art by someone else that you think should get more love.

I can't promise I'll look at the work you're talking about, because I might not have time or it might not be in my fandom, but it's nice to vent sometimes, and also perhaps someone else who wanders in will be interested!

She apparently enjoys using these attributes to work cons and steal things. Yet she doesn't seem to be intimately acquainted with Dean Winchester.
How very peculiar!

lust is just a couple of months back – since she kissed him that comes through even when they’re both caught deep in the glove compartment
This is... possibly porn? Or maybe just two folks in a locational difficulty.

She blinks. Sam’s signature musk is as unique as any alpha’s, and on a loose t-shirt and a federal level that is beneficial to humanity. Which is, you know, just silly.
That is a serious personal odor, y'all. I think it hurdles tall buildings in a single bound.

ghostyouknow27 - my SPN partner in crime, who got me unstuck at a gas station outside Grove City
Thank you, Ghost!

His expression is vague, but he blinks at Sam, stretched out on her door.
This needs a plot. Either we have girl!Sam or we're guaranteed at least three people in this fic.

She checks the peephole to see friendship and other things Loony Toons. But mostly SAAAAAAAAM.
Markov is writing me Becky's POV.

When the waiter’s gone, Sam hunkers down, elbows to the point when they turned into humans with suits!
I need art of this.

I gather I'm supposed to be Jo’s age and still unmated without being very good at other things.

As she says it, she takes another sniff to confirm, and that low-grade buzz under her skin starts to pick up. No, she tells herself, and sinks deeper into the jury's deliberation chambers.
It's judicial system porn, possibly combined with astral projection.

Y'all, I am apparently still in "Post-Project-Completion Mode." I spent probably an hour last night just wandering around fandom_wank, reading old SPN wank reports. I read a couple of fics. (One of them had bunches of quotes in Spanish, and I felt smart after I realized that the only ones I needed the mouseover text for were the swear words.) I did nothing useful whatsoever. And then I went to bed.

Before I do that, though, a meme! Nabbed from various folks.

Pick any passage of 500 300 words or less from any story I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you the equivalent of a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you’d expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

(If this post gives you deja vu, it means there's been a change in the Matrix it's because I posted last night and decided I didn't have the energy to respond. So I am reposting today. :D)

Um, I don't really bake. I'd rather eat the fruits of others' baking labor. Oh! Pumpkin seeds! Roasted pumpkin seeds are the best. (It counts as baking if it's in the oven, right?)

Two characters each from the Buffyverse, TVD, BSG, and SPN get sent off to a reality show. Who are the unexpected best pals, who's the first one to get called out in a dramatic house meeting, and who have the best regrettable drunken hookup?
Yikes. Okay, my people, selected basically from the set of People I Like Best: Dawn and Buffy (BtVS), Caroline and Damon (TVD), Gauis Baltar and Kara Thrace (BSG), Dean and Ellen (SPN).

Damon and Kara hook up and thoroughly enjoy themselves, up to and including the part where they'd really both rather be with other people (not on the show), because they're masochists that way.

Dean and Kara sleep together once, right at first. Dean's not much for angsting in bed, though, and he's not rough enough for her tastes. They end up being best buds instead; they drink and hold target practice, and she teaches him Pyramid. Sometimes Ellen joins them, for any or all of the above.

Caroline, Dawn, Buffy, and Damon all hang out. Buffy feels a little out-classed at first, because after all back in her pre-Slayer days she basically was Caroline, but Damon's pretty good at smoothing ruffled feathers and soothing egos when he bothers to exert himself. Besides, he'd much rather hang with the ladies than with Dean (too mopey and a little too overtly macho for Damon's taste), Ellen (not hard on the eyes, but the woman's a little bit terrifying), or, good grief, Gaius. At least, he won't hang out with Gaius when people are watching; privately, after they've all had too much booze, Damon finds Gaius freaking hilarious. And Dawn thinks Damon's almost the best thing ever, because he reminds her so much of Spike (who is actually the best thing ever).

Dawn and Damon get called on the carpet for an emergency meeting house meeting called just after midnight about a week in. Gaius is in such hysterics it takes him a good ten minutes to explain what exactly they put between his sheets.

If you could sit me down for a day or whatever and say, "I want you to write this story for me," what would that story be?

Feel free to tell me that what you really want is for me to finish project X that I have posted part of / keep talking about. *g*
snickfic: Spaceman Spiff about to crash his spaceship (mood sf)
I fiddled with some most of the categories to avoid repeats and reflect the fact that I mostly watch shows that are already finished.

Which TV shows did you start watching in 2011 and watch all the way through?

Supernatural, Downton Abbey, Sherlock. I think that's it.

Which TV shows did you start watching in 2011 and didn't finish, but still mean to?

Avatar: The Last Airbender, Battlestar Galactica, Farscape, Twin Peaks, The Vampire Diaries.

Which TV shows did you try in 2011 and gave up on?

Ringer? I dunno, that one's still up in the air. I might get back to it. Also Sliders (I watched the mpreg episode), ST: Enterprise (ditto). Dr. Who. (I may still try DW again, but guys, is hard. I can't seem to find my way into this show. It and me are unmixy things, apparently.) The X-Files.

What other shows did you watch this year?

The West Wing (still planning to finish), So You Think You Can Dance (yay!), ST:TOS (I just dabbled, but want to get back to it).

Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2012?

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Babylon 5, Dexter, ST:TOS. Possibly Misfits, The Walking Dead, Mad Men? Really, though, these are all "sometime in the future" shows; they don't necessarily have to happen next year.

Which TV shows do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?

Supernatural. Given everything I have already gone through with this show, it's pretty clear I'm in it until the bitter end, now.

Inspired by [profile] smells_corrupt, I went and played around with the LJ Markov Random Text Generator, which grabs text from your (or anyone's) LJ entries and makes exciting new combinations. It apparently only grabs from the first few entries, as my results mostly seemed to draw from either TVD reviews or the RPF fics I posted recently(which latter explains a few of the weirder results).

Somehow, what Danneel’s feeling blurts straight out her hand. Danneel shakes it.
This is either logical and efficient or else VERY GROSS.

After loathing Tyler Lockwood for the next five days, I will punch you in the closet.
I have a plan, yo.

my SPN fic wants to be true

Clearly pawn shop guy is a conclusion she’s come to in the icon
I have no idea what this means, so it must be deep.

Clearly pawn shop guy is a little nauseous and still in heat.
And again: poor guy.

Gen gets to her half-eaten macaroni, because that’s better than Buffyverse vampires, full stop.
Macaroni > vampires. Yep.

Dean, because I think he functions as a very here-and-now kind of lavender bodywash on top of that.
This is regarding the all-girly-bath-product AU.

His name is Aldis, and he’s pretty as long as he’s downwind; one sniff of him kills Danneel’s libido and all those people that aren't her boyfriend.
That, my friends, is serious BO.

So, fraternal tension resolved? Dean was probably asleep.

Old meme from long ago, resurrected:

The thing is, when people look for stories, they always make it sound like badfic. Now, often that's because it really is badfic, but sometimes it's good and they just suck at describing the story.

So, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to summarize badly any one (or more!) of my stories and I'll try to guess which it is. You could even pretend you don't remember the pairing or fandom to make it harder to guess.

This meme feels like a bit of a cheat, because it makes you do the work, instead of me. I'm terribly curious to read the responses, though. :)

1. Reply to this post with "Icons, Plz!" and I
will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

Icons below selected by [ profile] penny_lane_42, who startled me somewhat by titling her comment, "THE PORN ONE! THE PORN ONE!" If you are me, that is not an email title that you expect in your inbox.

Name a fictional character I know and I'll give you:

a) a fact about them from my personal canon
b) a reason he/she sucks
c) a reason he/she is amazing
d) a thing that I'd like to see happen to them
e) my ship of choice for that character (or why I don't have one)
f) someone that I can't/am unlikely to ship that character with

Any fandom you know I'm familiar with is fair game.

I snagged this from [ profile] ever_neutral and then altered it a little.

Give me a trope, fandom, character, or pairing (gen or shippy), and I'll tell you 3-5 relevant fics or fic writers that I love. Communal fic-appreciation: yay.

I'm taking 'Spuffy' and 'general BtVS' off the table because there are too many fabulous authors to name, bunches of whom are on my flist. Anything else (including specific BtVS characters/pairings/whatever) is fair game, though. Go!

I'm nabbing this meme from everywhere, and I'm going to go ahead and give the answers to the two obvious fandoms, because I want to, darn it! But if you want to ask me about other fandoms, feel free.
